Every child is different in their own unique ways. Counselling for children and teens provides a one-on-one support to help identify any mental health concerns, challenges, or problems at school.
A parent could seek counselling for their child for a number of reasons, including providing them with a space to explore their emotions. Very often, this could be in relation to an event that resulted in trauma, or an existing challenge they are experiencing.
‘Sand Tray & Symbol Therapy’ can be an effective way to encourage a child to articulate their thoughts in these circumstances.
More experiential ways of working can allow the child to explore their feelings and come to an active solution more subconsciously. It is most helpful to work with the parents too and how this can be integrated can be discussed at the first interview with the parent/s and the child.
Families can attend a session as a group and/or as individuals. The Counsellor/s will see children of varying ages, although the first session with parents/caregivers would be essential to understand the areas of concern from family members.
